This week the preschoolers learned about the
letters T, U, V, & W! They are getting excited to
finish the alphabet and get to letter Z next week!
Mrs. Shrader is excited to do letter recognition
assessments to see how many more letters each
student learned! For the next month the
preschooler are really going to be practicing
shapes! We will be playing games and singing
songs to help the preschoolers learn 8 shapes.
The preschoolers are also very excited for their
student teacher Miss Schacht to start next week!

The kindergartners are learning the letter Ff was a lot of fun
this week! October is also "Fire
Prevention Month" and fire also starts
with the letter F. We had fun making
fire truck treats that were
yummmmmy and also had fun
making fire dogs. The best thing
about this week was our field trip.
The Neligh mill was very neat! We
saw lots of old equipment that was
used to grind wheat into flour!
HyVee gave us lots of yummy snacks
to eat! And now we know where all
our pop comes from! Wispac was
awesome! Watching all the pop cans
and bottles get filled and packaged
and man, was it loud! Poppy's
Pumpkin patch was probably the
biggest hit of the day! Animals to pet,
slides to go down, ziplines to ride and
we even got to take home our very
own pumpkin! If your like Mrs.
Bazelman, lots of moms will be
having to make pumpkin pie this
weekend!
A lesson about Stranger Safety was
also an important part of our week!
Ask me what "SCOOP" means!
After an exhausting day it was great
to have a short day on Friday!

This week the 1st graders are learning to read math
stories and find the answer by subtracting. Their new
math words are more than and fewer than. Most
reading groups have learned the V-C-V rule and
using that rule to decode words. In Social Studies ,
they are learning about communities and their part in
the world,.In Science they have learned how animals
prepare for the winter. The First Grade class was
"BOOED" this week and received monster donuts. It
was a great treat.

This week the 2nd graders had some very authentic learning this week! We went back in time
to see what Clearwater was like a long time ago. Kathy Patra brought in all of her old
photographs of Clearwater. The second graders discovered that Clearwater used to have a
railroad, hotel, theater, and a hat store. They liked seeing how the town has changed over
time. We also talked about how events in a community, either good or bad, can affect the
entire community. The second graders got to interview someone they knew about the
Clearwater flood. They learned that the Clearwater flood brought the town together and that
community members worked together to build a dyke, clean up the town, and make sure
everybody stayed safe.

The 3rd graders have been filled with a lot of "OOO's" and "AAHH's" this week as they continued to observe their plant experiment. The biggest difference so far is just the color of the plants. They have concluded that they definitely need sunlight to turn green. They are also busy subtracting and using models to help them figure out story problems. The Clearwater Insurance Agency provided each student with a coloring book for Fire Prevention Week. What a nice surprise.

The Elementary classes collected a total of 1,403 Box Tops for the month of September. The First Graders won the traveling trophy for the month with an average of 36.6 Box Tops per child. Keep collecting! Watch the progress on the thermometer out in the hallway
